Universe Life-Cycle

The Synthesis Framework derives a complete dynamical life-cycle of the Universe from the evolution of the substrate parameters \(K\) and \(P\), through their ratio \(R=P/K\), and establishes that the present expansion is a finite branch terminating at a maximum-scale state before entering contraction. The relevant chapters of Volume IX provide both the first-principles dynamical structure of this life-cycle and its quantitative prediction for the remaining duration of cosmic expansion.

Terminal Cosmological Life-Cycle and Expansion Halt

The Synthesis Framework establishes that cosmic evolution is governed by the monotonic evolution of the ratio of synthesis pressure to vacuum stiffness, \(R=P/K\). Since \(\dot P<0\) and \(\dot K>0\), the ratio satisfies

\[ \dot R = \frac{K\dot P-P\dot K}{K^2} <0, \qquad \lim_{t\to\infty}R(t)=0. \]

The Universe therefore evolves through a definite sequence of substrate regimes,

\[ R\gg1 \;\longrightarrow\; R\sim1 \;\longrightarrow\; R\ll1, \]

corresponding respectively to generative, structural, and mature restorative phases. The present expanding branch belongs to this evolutionary sequence and is governed by

\[ H^2(z) = H_0^2 \frac{K(z)[1+R(z)]} {K_0(1+R_0)}. \]

The evolution necessarily reaches a critical terminal equilibrium defined by

\[ \mathcal H(K_c,P_c)=0, \qquad H_c=0, \qquad \dot a_c=0, \qquad a_c=a_{\max}. \]

This establishes the transition

\[ H>0 \;\longrightarrow\; H=0 \;\longrightarrow\; H<0, \]

or, equivalently,

\[ \text{Expansion} \;\longrightarrow\; \text{Maximum Scale} \;\longrightarrow\; \text{Contraction}. \]

The expansion halt is therefore not an externally imposed boundary condition but the terminal dynamical consequence of the monotonic evolution of the substrate ratio \(R=P/K\). The subsequent contracting branch remains governed by the same substrate dynamics, with \(H<0\), \(\dot a<0\), and continued decrease of \(R\).

Numerical Crux

The first-principles expansion equation yields a quantitative future turnaround. With \(\Omega_m\simeq0.30\), the turnaround condition

\[ \Omega_m(1+z_{\rm turn})^3 + (1-\Omega_m) \frac{P(z_{\rm turn})-K(z_{\rm turn})} {P_0-K_0} =0 \]

gives

\[ z_{\rm turn}\simeq-0.42, \qquad a_{\max}\simeq1.72\,a_0. \]

Using \(H_0^{-1}\simeq14.4\) billion years, the proper-time integral to the turnaround is

\[ \Delta t_{\rm halt} = \frac{1}{H_0} \int_{-0.42}^{0} \frac{dz} {(1+z) \sqrt{ 0.30(1+z)^3 + 0.70 \frac{P(z)-K(z)} {P_0-K_0} }}, \]

with dimensionless integral

\[ \mathcal I_{\rm halt}\simeq2.604. \]

Therefore,

\[ \boxed{ \Delta t_{\rm halt} \simeq 37.5\ {\rm billion\ years} } \]

The numerical crux is thus

\[ \boxed{ z_{\rm turn}\simeq-0.42, \qquad a_{\max}\simeq1.72\,a_0, \qquad \Delta t_{\rm halt}\simeq37.5\ {\rm billion\ years}. } \]

This quantitative result establishes the remaining duration of the present expanding branch and fixes the corresponding maximum cosmic scale. At the terminal point \(H=0\) and \(\dot a=0\); thereafter the cosmological solution enters the contracting restorative branch.

Summary of the Original Contribution of the Synthesis Framework

The Synthesis Framework establishes a complete substrate-driven cosmological life-cycle in which the Universe evolves from synthesis-dominated expansion through structural maturation to restorative dominance, reaches a finite maximum scale, and subsequently enters contraction. It further derives a quantitative expansion halt at \(z_{\rm turn}\simeq-0.42\), corresponding to \(a_{\max}\simeq1.72\,a_0\) and a remaining expansion duration of approximately \(37.5\) billion years.
